Safer Neighbourhood Team
Old Coulsdon and Coulsdon town centre now have in place a dedicated Safer Neighbourhood Team. The team consists of two Police Sergeants, one Police Constable and three Police Community Support Officers who are out on patrol. They work closely with the local community and will be tasked by local people to deal with crime and disorder in their area, whilst tackling the issues that affect the quality of life of our residents. The number below will put you in touch with the team whilst they are on duty - it will automatically go to their mobile phone number if they are not in the office, but you will still be charged the local call rate. *Remember, if a crime is being committed now you should still ring 999. They will be able to send help much quicker and will alert our team as well. To contact the Coulsdon East Safer Neighbourhood team call 020 8721 2059 INFORMATION FROM THE NEIGHBOURHOOD PARTNERSHIPS TEAM Emergency Exercise On Thursday 13th November 2008, between 9am and 2pm, the Corporate Emergency Management Team of Croydon Council are testing their Emergency Response Plan. They will be exercising with the Borough Police, Borough Fire Brigade and the London Ambulance Service. One of the aspects of the emergency arrangements that they are testing is the arrangements for what is called a ‘Survivor Reception Centre’. This centre is where those who have been involved in a major incident such as a train crash will be gathered until they are ready to continue on their way. The aim is to offer comfort and some information in the early stages as well as the Police obtaining details of potential witnesses. How can you assist us? We need to have volunteers to pass through the process of registration and being provided ‘comfort’ as if you have been involved in a major incident. The benefit to us is that we can get real feed back as to how it works from a survivor perspective. The possible benefit to you is that you have a better understanding of what is involved in the response to such incidents. We will be providing refreshments including a lunch during the exercise. Those who do volunteer will be covered by the Council’s insurance. Unfortunately there is no payment for assisting us in this event. If you are able to assist please contact Tony Morris on 020 8760 5532 or tony.morris@croydon.gov.uk or Anna Bastow on 020 8760 5678 or Anna.Bastow@croydon.gov.uk NEW COULSDON WEST POLICE SURGERIES Police surgeries for Coulsdon West ward will commence in October 2006. The surgeries will occur on the first Tuesday and the first Saturday of each month at different venues targeting different parts of the ward. I plan to run these surgeries for a period of six months and then review their success. The surgeries will allow local people to speak to a member of Coulsdon West’s Safer Neighbourhood Team face to face, without the need of an appointment, or the inconvenience of travelling a long distance. This is an opportunity for any member of the community to influence the policing priorities of their local police team. The Tuesday surgery (1st Tues of the month) will take place in the heart of Coulsdon town centre, inside Coulsdon Library. It will run from 11am to 12.30pm. The Saturday surgery (1st Sat of the month) will take place in a residential part of the ward, inside Coulsdon Community Centre. It will run from 10am to 11.30am. This surgery will share its venue and timing with the local Councillor's surgery. The Councillors and the Safer Neighbourhood Team will each have their own office, affording local people a 'one stop' opportunity to speak directly to their local Councillor or a member of their local Police Safer Neighbourhood Team.
