Red LionCurrent plansAn international supermarket chain called, "Aldi", have bought the site. The previous plans submitted by Aldi were unanimously rejected by the Council at a recent Planning Committee. There has now been a request for Outline Planning Permission to erect a two/three/four/five/six storey building (they obviously haven't made up their minds yet!) with a basement parking area, comprising use for a retail outlet on the ground floor, 43 two bedroom and 9 one bedroom flats on the upper floors. There would also be a new vehicular access to the site and the provision of surface car parking. The Application can be viewed on the Council's website and it's number is 06/03132/P.
The alterations to the junction at Marlpit Lane are now complete although they were not supposed to be done until a second Safety Audit of the proposals had been completed and this definitely has not been done - or is likely to be. The Council Officer involved was, apparently, unaware that this was required. We have vigorously chased this up, all to no avail. Having investigated still further, our local councillors have been trying to find out what legal agreement has taken place between the developers and the former Labour Cabinet. A proposed exchange of land was rejected by the Council some time ago, but whether or not they went back on that decision is uncertain. The Houses have now all been sold and and the new residents are moving in. Despite the dispute with the developers, we realise this was no fault of the new residents and extend a warm welcome to them into our community. We hope they will become members of our association and enjoy their new environment. New Youth Centre The proposed new Youth Centre is being set up in the old Sports Pavillion on Grange Park. The Council are spending a lot on revitalising the building with new toilets, Kitchen facilities etc in reply to questionaires returned by the local youth community as to their local needs. It is hoped that once completed (probably late September, October this year) it will provide the facilities the youth of the area requested. There have been complaints about the damage being done to the footpath in Placehouse Lane by cars and lorries parking illegally on the pavement. As a result, Parking Enforcement Officers have been ticketing those caught and have also been enforcing the double yellow lines in Court Avenue. Felling of willow trees on Bradmore Green Willow trees on Bradmore Green had to be felled recently because they were taking up too much water from the pond, leaving it even more empty. It is intended that other indigenous trees are planted instead that do not take up so much water in order to survive. We know this hasn't been a popular decision for some people, but nevertheless it was a necessary one. Swimming ClubGood News. The Old Coulsdon Swimming Club has recently reformed and are now swimming at the pool in Caterham School in Harestone Valley Road, Caterham. They swim from 6:15 Pm to 7:15Pm on Tuesday evenings and all local residents are welcome to join in. Cost is £2.00 per swim with fees payable at the door. For further details please contact the club chairman, Mr M Hoffman on 0208-668-6246 (Evenings) Updated on 08/07/07Old Coulsdon Rotary Fair will once again be held on Grange Park, Old Coulsdon on Saturday 5th July 2008. (10.00 am to 12.00 Noon) Tesco Store Alteration to Tesco Store and Road system at Purley Cross. An exhibition is to take place in Purley in September (Watch the local press for details) showing the possible redevelopment plans to double the size of Tesco's store at Purley Cross. Your local Residents Association would welcome your views on this expansion. Do you want us to accept this enlargement or to fight the application Coulsdon College. Placehouse Lane. With the rebuilding of Coulsdon College there will obviously be a lot of disruption both to local services and road traffic. OCRA have forwarded to the council a series of requests intended to reduce the disruption to the local residents. Some of these request restrictions on working hours, no Sunday working, extra off road car parking for the students, reduction of noise pollution, monitoring of lorry drivers when delivering building materials etc. We are also trying to reduce the number of houses being built on the site as the increase in traffic from the proposed 31 houses exiting into an already dangerously restricted road could have catastrophic effects on local traffic, builders lorries and the local Bus service for many years to come.
Old Coulsdon in Bloom Competition Result 2007 The rainy weather failed to put a damper on the Annual "Old Coulsdon in Bloom 2007" competition. Three top judges including last years winner Mrs Simmons, Mrs Poynter and Mrs Wisby,RHS Dip in Hort-Hcc) judged Best Hanging Baskets and Containers (front garden only) and the Best Front Garden from the local entrants.
